About Dr. Kirsten Bonaventura, Clinical Psychologist in Austin, TX

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist providing therapy for adults in Austin, Texas and online throughout Texas, California and PSYPACT-participating states. For over 20 years, I have helped individuals navigate anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, codependency patterns, trauma, and major life transitions. My goal is to provide a thoughtful, grounded space where you can better understand yourself, and make changes toward increased life balance and fulfillment.
I earned my Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University in 1996, and my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University in 2001, with a special emphasis in child, individual, and family therapy.
I also completed post-doctoral training in analytical psychology and sandtray therapy at the Jung Institute in Los Angeles. This additional depth of training continues to inform my understanding of symbolism and the impact of early experiences on adult functioning.
Throughout my career, I have provided therapeutic services in a range of settings, including community mental health agencies, public and nonpublic schools, and hospital environments. At Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, I specialized in working with children and adults coping with trauma, as well as broader mental health and relationship concerns.
For over nine years I supervised psychology interns and fellows in APA accredited training programs. I also served as clinical services coordinator at Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women and Children, and sat on the board of the Multicultural Learning Center for six years. These experiences shaped my commitment to culturally responsive, ethical, and evidence-based care.
While my early career included work with children and families, my private practice over the last decade has focused primarily on adults. Many of the clients I work with today are struggling with anxiety and depression, feeling stuck in codependent relationships, and navigating significant life transitions. They are often high functioning, but feel overwhelmed internally, and seek a deeper understanding of themselves.
I integrate insight oriented, psychodynamic therapy with practical tools, helping clients understand the impact of the past on their current functioning, and how to move forward differently toward their personal goals.
In 2021 I relocated to Austin, Texas and am currently providing in-person therapy in Austin, and online therapy throughout Texas. If you are looking for an experienced clinical psychologist who specializes in anxiety, depression, codependency and relationship challenges, I invite you to contact me.
