My therapeutic work with children involves gaining a clear understanding from parents about their specific concerns for their child. I gather detailed information related to each child’s development and history, noting long-term issues as well as sudden changes in mood or behaviors. Goals for treatment are discussed with parents at the onset of treatment, and discussion of progress towards these goals is ongoing.
I provide a safe space for children to express themselves comfortably. Depending on the needs of the child and the issues being addressed, interventions may include play therapy, working on improving social and coping skills, problem solving, psychoeducation and advocacy.
I have acquired specializations in working with traumatized children, as well as with children who have severe difficulty in managing their emotions, and therefore demonstrate significant behavioral issues. I help children to express their feelings appropriately and regain their sense of security and self esteem. I also provide support and guidance for parents as they deal with stressors related to their child’s well being.
